Trade Rumor: Nationals Speedster Trea Turner Drawing Serious Interest

It's pretty clear by now that the Washington Nationals are sellers at the trade deadline, and if they really want to go all out, they've got maybe the two biggest pieces of all available: Max Scherzer, and now, possibly, Trea Turner.

To say the least, the Nats would have to be blown away by an offer in order to trade shortstop Trea Turner, one of the top hitters in the game. Turner is hitting .319 and is on pace for a possible 30-40 season (30 HR, 40 SB).

The report says the Nationals "haven't ruled out" a Turner trade, but the team does have one more year of control, until he becomes a free agent in 2023, so they are certainly in no rush to deal him.

But a player of this caliber could easily turn a mere contender into a World Series contender, so the offers would have to be enormous.

There are a number of high-profile shortstops hitting the free agent market this offseason (Trevor Story, Javy Baez, Marcus Semien, Corey Seager), so you'd have to wonder what kind of prospect capital teams would pay to trade for one right now.

Washington is certainly a team to keep an eye on, however, as we approach this Friday's trade deadline.
