The Texas Rangers Are Trying To Extend Their Big Star

Joey Gallo has been one of the biggest names in trade rumors, but the Texas Rangers are apparently not jumping to that yet. Instead, they are working on an extension with their star outfielder, according to Jon Heyman. If it does not come into fruition, they are going to listen to trade offers for him.

The Rangers currently have a 35-64 record and are in the middle of a rebuild, so it may be challenging for them to convince Gallo to stay for the long-term. He also would have the chance to be an unrestricted free agent in 2023 if he decides to go to arbitration this off-season. That would allow him the opportunity to sign to any team of his choosing, so he may prefer to do that.

One cannot blame the Rangers for wanting to extend him, as he is their star. In 93 games this season, he has 24 home runs, 52 RBIs and a .225 batting average. Even though he does not hit contact that well, his raw power is hard to match. He also leads the league in 74 walks, so he is developing into a more patient hitter, too.

He also is a very versatile player, as he not only can play outfield, but also first and third base. Therefore, he could help fill many different needs for interested teams. That enhances his overall value as a result of this.

We will have to wait and see if the 27-year-old agrees to an extension with the Rangers. If not, do not be surprised if he is traded before the deadline.
