Stunning and Unexpected Contract Offer From the Marlins
One thing we've all learned not to expect from the Miami Marlins, is a "big-money" contract extension to a veteran star player. That's why the news today that the team has offered outfielder Starling Marte a 3-year $30 Million dollar extension comes as a surprise.
The Marlins have made a multi-year contract extension offer to OF Starling Marte. Here is the latest, plus more notes with @J_McPherson1126 for @HeraldSports.https://t.co/YJdfdODkqD https://t.co/YJdfdODkqD

Miami beat reporter Craig Mish reports that Marte is unlikely to accept the Marlins' offer, though sources have reported that the team is may up the ante before the trade deadline at the end of July.
We reported last month that Marte would like to stay in Miami and actually wanted to speak to the Marlins about an extension, so maybe this is just the starting point of negotiations.
Sources have told Mish that Marte was looking for a three- or four-year deal in the $50 million range, so it remains to be seen how this pans out.
