Rumor: Toronto Blue Jays & Chicago Cubs Talking Blockbuster Trade
The Toronto Blue Jays have one of the best lineups in baseball and it could be getting even more powerful. Jays management duo of Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro know their team is close to being a legit contender and have been fielding trade calls including some huge names.
Rumor has the Blue Jays talking trade with the Chicago Cubs about acquiring third baseman Kris Bryant and closer Craig Kimbrel, with the likes of Cavan Biggio and several prospects headed to the Windy City.
Biggio has struggled this season, and with him being the most versatile player on Toronto's roster, he's usually the first name other team's ask about when discussing trade return. So far in 2021, the 26-year-old is batting .226 with seven HR and 25 RBI. It has not been his best season, however given his age, pedigree and his work habits, there's still a ton of development that could take place in his game.
The Blue Jays see third base and their bullpen during high leverage situations as the two elements of the team that need to be addressed and the Cubs could have everything they need. Bryant has enjoyed a bounce back season and is batting .265 with 16 HR and 48 RBI, meanwhile Kimbrel has tossed 33.2 innings of impressive ball, posting a 0.53 ERA and recording 58 strikeouts with 21 saves. Sounds like the perfect match to a lot of people, let's see if the Cubs and Jays feel the same before July 30.
