Rumor: Red Sox Head the Chase For These Slugging 1B Trade Targets

First base is a position that nearly every contender in baseball already has filled. Except one. The Boston Red Sox are desperate for some help at 1B, and they've got Jesus Aguilar on their radar.

The Miami Marlins' slugger has 15 HR and 62 RBI this season, and he's heating up, after driving in 9 runs in the one week before the All-Star Break.

He had a 35/100 season as recently as 2018, and was on pace in last year's shortened schedule for another 100 RBI season. He would be the perfect fit for the BoSox at first, who have the 5th-worst production at the position in the majors.

Boston has been relying on rookie Bobby Dalbec, who has struggled to find his place in the show this season, with a .219 average, and .673 OPS.

Is Mike Rizzo Heading Home?

The other notable first baseman on the market is the Chicago Cubs' free agent Anthony Rizzo, who was originally drafted by the Red Sox in 2007. He would also be a natural fit to come back to Boston, but Jon Heyman feels that Rizzo isn't going anywhere.

“Rizzo, I still don’t believe that they’ll trade him,” Heyman said. “I think that he’s a Cub. We shall see. Maybe he doesn’t mind at this point the way the Cubs are doing, if he wants to try to win this year. Maybe he’ll be OK with it. But I just feel like they’re going to keep Rizzo long term. We shall see, no guarantees here.”
