Oakland A’s & Miami Marlins Complete Big-Name Trade!

The Oakland A’s, with a tenuous grip on the 2nd wild card spot, knew they had to do something big to boost their offense, so they’ve pulled the trigger on a huge deal, acquiring center fielder Starling Marte from the Miami Marlins in exchange for future ace Jesus Luzardo.

To be sure, Luzardo has hit a bump in the road this season, with a 6.87 ERA with the A's, before being sent to Triple-A in late June, where he has continued to struggle. But the 23-year-old remains an elite pitching prospect and can one day be a No. 1 starter.

As for Marte, the 32-year-old becomes a free agent after this season, as the Marlins weren't able to meet his contract demands for an extension. He'll be a huge addition to the A's lineup though for the next two months, as he's in the midst of another strong season, with a slash line of  .306/.407/.859 along with 22 stolen bases.

The A's outbid a number of big market teams for Marte, as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants were said to be trying to land the big fish from the Marlins.
