Miami Marlins Shopping Star Outfielder

It appears that outfielder Starling Marte is likely to be traded by the Miami Marlins. According to Jon Heyman, he has rejected a three-year extension over $30 million and that Miami will now try to move him. The Houston Astros, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies are all said to be interested in him.

The Marlins are currently sporting a 40-53 record, so any postseason hope is essentially gone. Marte also only has one year left on his deal, so the Marlins want to avoid losing him to free agency for nothing. With him having good value and the team rebuilding, they certainly would benefit from getting some solid prospects in return.

In 56 games this season, the 32-year-old outfielder has been quite productive at the plate. He has a .290 batting average and seven home runs. It also should be noted that he has done very well on the basepaths, too, as he is fourth in the majors with 19 stolen bases.

Teams who are looking to make a postseason push and need outfield help should be calling about Marte. He is now one of the top options officially available.
