Done Deal: Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals Complete a Trade
The Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals have agreed to a trade that sees veteran shortstop Alcides Escobar heading to the Nationals for cash considerations, this according to Maria Torres of The Athletic.
The veteran Escobar is now 34-years-old and hasn't played a game for the Royals since 2018. Back in May he signed a minor-league deal and was hitting .274 on the season. Escobar just wants to play baseball as his love for the game took him over to Japan last season.
The long-time Royal was a huge part of the Royals success back during their World Series runs in 2014 and '15, including winning ALCS MVP in 2015 after slashing .478/.481/.652 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
This trade had everything to do with the Nationals needing someone off their bench as Jordy Mercer went down with a right quad strain. So much for the Nationals selling this season....
