BIG Trade Announcement: Blue Jays Snag Jose Berrios For 2 Top Prospects
Starting pitching is in huge demand at the trade deadline, as always, and aside from Max Scherzer, the Minnesota Twins' ace Jose Berrios was the biggest name out there. The Toronto Blue Jays have apparently won the sweepstakes.

The Blue Jays have been rumored to be in on Berrios for most of the week, but as of this morning, the San Diego Padres were thought to have the inside track. Then, just as they were with Scherzer, they've been one-upped, this time by the Jays. But it took a huge prospect haul to do it.
The Jays have shipped out their Nos. 2 and 4 prospects, SS/OF Austin Martin and RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson to Minnesota.
It's an extremely high price to pay, but the Toronto brain trust of GM Ross Atkins and President Mark Shapiro are obviously confident that Berrios can help lead them to the playoffs.
Clearly, the #BlueJays think they can win in 2021. And understandably so. Their team is good.

But Jose Berrios will also be here for 2022. Next year's rotation can now be fronted by Ryu, Berrios & Manoah.
The price – Martin & SWR – considered very high by rival MLB executives.
The Jays sit 9.5 games back of the 1st place Red Sox in the AL East, and 4.5 back of the 2nd wild card, but with two other teams to climb over as well.
Berrios is having one of his best seasons, with a winning record (7-5) on a last-place team, and a 3.48 ERA. He is under team control through 2022 before becoming a free agent.
