Trade Rumor: Texas Rangers & San Diego Padres Talking Trade
The San Diego Padres are in win-now mode and will be looking to add some talent before the trade deadline. Turns out they've held some discussions with the Texas Rangers and according to The Athletic's Dennis Lin are very interested in acquiring power-hitter Joey Gallo.
The two teams have discussed some big names in the past, including Gallo last summer but couldn't agree on which Padres prospects were headed to Texas. Talks have resumed and the two sides could agree to terms in the coming weeks. The 27-year-old would provide the Padres with some more protection for stars Fernando Tatis Jr and Manny Machado. The only knock on Gallo is he's a career .208 hitter, so there's certainly a risk involved if you're adding him to the lineup.
So far this season, the right fielder sits with a .207 AVG with 10 HR and 26 RBI. He's making $6.2 million this season and won't become a free agent until after next season. Texas sits with a record 23-38, good for last in the AL West and the Rangers will be very busy re-tooling their roster. Expect to see Gallo traded before the deadline and it appears right now the Padres are the heavy favorite.
