The three-time Cy Young Winner is day to day with the groin injury. An MRI after the game revealed no strain.
Scherzer's health is critical for not only the Nationals, but also next month's trade deadline. With free agency looming after this season, Scherzer makes an excellent trade chip for the Nationals, who have so far struggled this season.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez is cautiously optimistic about Scherzer's injury status: "It was a lot better news than I thought. I thought it was a muscle pull in his groin. It was not that. But we’re not out of the woods yet."
