Jacob deGrom Plans to Pitch Monday; Continues Mind-Blowing Season

Mets' ace Jacob deGrom, who left his last start with shoulder soreness, celebrated his 33rd birthday on Saturday by throwing a bullpen session, and says he WILL make his scheduled start on Monday. It's his 4th minor injury of the season, but when asked if he felt any older on his birthday, he had a response we could only expect from the greatest pitcher of our generation:

Benjamin Button, anyone? The fact is, his ERA is definitely "going the other way", as it keeps falling and falling every time he pitches. After his three perfect innings in his last start, it sits at an astounding 0.54.

And check out these ridiculous numbers in 67 innings pitched:

  • 4 Earned Runs allowed
  • 6 Runs Batted In!
  • 4 MRIs (for injuries)
Yes, the man has more RBI than earned runs allowed, and the same number of MRIs as runs allowed!!

With 111 strikeouts in 67 IP, and the 0.54 ERA, deGrom could be on course for the greatest season by a pitcher in major league history. This isn't going unnoticed by even the greats of the game today:

It's hard to argue with Tatis' assertion that deGrom is the NL MVP to this point.

Let's just hope he gets to spend more time on the pitching mound than in the MRI machine for the rest of this season.
