Done Deal: Giants and Rays Complete a Trade
The San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays completed a deal on Friday that sees right-hander Matt Wisler head to Tampa in exchange for left-handed prospect Michael Plassmeyer.
The Giants also sent cash considerations in the deal, meanwhile Plassmeyer appears headed for Double-A. The 24-year-old lefty was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 4th-round of 2018 and was soon dealt to the Rays and now makes his way to the Giants. His numbers are impressive throughout his pro career, with 45 appearances to go along with a 2.23 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a K per inning. Plassmeyer has started three games in Double-A this season and projects to be a starter long-term.
As for Wisler, he's struggled the past couple of months in California and will welcome a change of scenery. He's allowed 13 runs in 21 appearances, after signing this offseason with the team. While he's been a touch unlucky, his strikeout rate is still good and Tampa's track record with pitchers should go a long way for the righty. He couldn't be going to a better team to help refresh his career.
Tampa Bay Rays fans, all 15 of you, here's what you can expect from the righty:
